Abstract

Between the 4th May and 11th June 2004, Oxford Archaeology (OA) undertook a field evaluation on land between Meath Green Lane and the River Mole on the north-west outskirts of Horley, Surrey. Further trenching was undertaken along a proposed access route which ran west of the River Mole to the A2l7 Reigate road. The evaluation identified a significant late lron Age to early Roman area of settlement and associated field systems to the east of the River Mole, along with large number of post medieval pits. No features of archaeological significance were identified along the proposed access route, but the existence of a filled-in river meander containing an alluvial sequence was confirmed intmediately to the west of the River Mole.
